This is a great book by David almond who is one of the best he has ever written. The book is set just before ww2 and follows a boy called bobby who meets a mysterious old man called mc nulty who is a fire eater that is why the book is called fire eaters. the two people meet in a market square when the young boy is asked by mc nulty to stick a huge skewer through his cheek but not until he gets his pay. this book has also wonwon the Whitbread, the Smarties Gold Award and was shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal.I would recommend this book and i would give it ******
